Walks
Being the proud owners of a fluffy little dog, we have been forced to explore the New Forest and the surrounding area more thoroughly.
Ten minutes drive from here will take you into the New Forest along Forest Road and almost immediately on your right is a place called Turf Hill . This is a very undulating area with the beauty of the New Forest heather and gorse and the pine trees to meander through. |
|
 |
Continue past Turf Hill to Telegraph Hill. It is a little more exposed here but is still a great place to walk.
Stoney Cross in Fritham could be your next stop. Again this is not too far away from Newton Farmhouse and is an extensive area for walking. If you carry on past Stoney Cross you can head down towards the coast where there are many lovely beach walks at Highcliffe Castle, or Lepe, or maybe a little further afield to Lulworth Cove.
Fritham is approximately 7 miles from Newton Farmhouse and is really very beautiful, it is great for walking, cycling or for the energetic it is a good 5 mile (approx) run. There is also the Royal Oak pub to stop off in!
Longcross, Fritham
If you go past the Lamb Inn and continue up to the top of the road, turn left, go down to the crossroads and turn left again, Longcross is on the right hand side. A lovely spot for picnics and a walk.
Roundhill
This can be combined with a walk and a trip down to the Green Dragon at Brook for a well deserved lunch. There is also Bramshaw Golf Course nearby.
Bramble Hill Walk
This is up the road from Roundhill and Longcross. All of these walks are within 5-10 minutes drive of Newton Farmhouse and within the New Forest and close proximity of a lovely New Forest pub for lunch or great picnic areas.
Closer to home there are beautiful forest walks right by the Lamb Inn in Nomansland, which of course means that you can have a lovely drink in the bar after your exertions!

Places of Interest
In the hallway of Newton Farmhouse there is a dresser which has numerous different leaflets for all the lovely places that can be visited from 10 minutes onwards. Obviously the main attraction is Salisbury Cathedral, which is a ten minute drive up the A36 from Newton Farmhouse. There is plenty of parking in Salisbury, Old George Mall is probably a good option as it is very close and you pay as you leave so you are under no pressure to return to your car.
Winchester is about 30 minutes from here and again there is a wonderful cathedral and a quaint market on Saturdays.
Wilton House is slightly north of Salisbury, approximately 15-20 minutes from Newton Farmhouse and is open from April onwards.
Stonehenge is approximately 25 minutes from here and many of our guests drag themselves out of bed at the crack of dawn to see the sun rise over Stonehenge. If you do wish to do this, let us know and we will always make arrangements for you to have your breakfast a little later.
Braemore House is approximately 15 minutes away and is open from April – September.
For the children there are numerous places to visit:
Paultons Park
Cheddar Gorge
Beaulieu Car Museum (probably not all children's idea of fun, maybe for dads)
General Information
There is a cash machine in the Post Office in Whiteparish, they are open 9-5 Monday to Saturday and 8-1.00 on Sundays.
If you wish to pamper yourself while staying with us I can recommend Evadi in Winchester Street , they use Elemis products and are very happy to pamper chaps as well. Heather is the owner and she has two delightful young ladies helping her called Dawn and Kerry. They also do make up for weddings.
Illusions in Winchester Street is a small hairdressers run by Kelvin, who is generally terribly busy so booking in advance is recommended.
Toni & Guy are off the market square and numerous other hairdressers are scattered around Salisbury . |
